What are my career opportunities with this degree?

That is a very important question to ask at this time.

The BA in Social Care equips students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to work in a variety of social care contexts. Employment opportunities exist in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors in a variety of community-based and residential settings.

With the introduction of CORU Registration and Regulation, there will be a requirement for Social Care Workers to be qualified with a minimum level 7 award. Social Care workers typically work with services for:

  • People with disabilities
  • Children in Care
  • Marginalised and Minority groups
  • Addiction
  • Homelessness
  • Family support
  • Older People

CORU Update

The OTC's BA in Social Care has now been approved by CORU, in time for the opening of the CORU register for Social Care Workers in 2023. This means that the programme is included in the bye-law which allows for graduates of the degree to register as professional Social Care Workers (SCWs). The register opened on 30 November 2023, and the title of Social Care Worker will become officially protected on 30 November 2025.

This process will ensure that members of the public will now have greater confidence in the profession. They will know that any person registered as a Social Ware worker with CORU, will have had their professional standing and qualifications independently verified.
