Lámh Time App is a winner!

from left to right: Maura Bolger (Lámh Tutor), Jan O’Sullivan (former Minister for Education), Geraldine Moran (SLT, BOCSS), Pat Clarke (CEO, DSI), Mary Cullen (Manager, Lámh), Margaret Farrell (Lámh Board).

The Lámh Time App won Best App at the Irish Digital Media Awards in 2016.

This was great news for all involved – Lámh and Down Syndrome Ireland developed this app as a collaborative project, and Legion Interactive who are based in the Digital Hub, were the hard working and talented app developers who brought all the ideas to life. This project was supported by DevEire. Keith Hanley and Maura Bolger were our expert sign presenters who did such a good job, and the Working Group who developed the app content were: Nicola Hart (DSI), Geraldine Moran (BOCSS) and Mary Cullen (Lámh).

We’re delighted that this project with Down Syndrome Ireland has been so well received, and we hope this means that many more people will hear about Lámh signing, which is always good news for Lámh users an their families around Ireland. The 2 winners of the Story Competition for schools were Euan Maguire from Mary Mother of Hope Senior School, Dublin and Eoin Hoyne from the Monday Cubs in Naas, and their stories featuring Lámh signs are available on the app, along with 6 Home and School based activities, a Knock Knock activity and a comprehensive video library of 110+ Lámh signs.

Families who have been using the Lámh Time app said:

We have this app and it’s amazing!! My daughter has all the signs down to a T !!well done!! She is really enjoying it! (on Lámh Sign Facebook page)

My 6 yr old son started using the lamh time app over Christmas. He absolutely loves it, in particular the story about eating pizza at the restaurant. Since using the app he is using a lot more spontaneous lamh at home. He is continuously using lamh signs as well as imitating new signs which he is seeing while utilising the app. I would highly recommend this app from my experience, it relates to everyday activities and has the added bonus in my son’s case of encouraging speech sounds and lamh signing. (by email)

Other Apps nominated for this category included AIB, UTV iPlayer and Irish Rugby so we’re delighted to see the Lámh Time app in a mainstream category and to have this Irish-made, Irish-based app for children with communication needs being highlighted amongst big companies and other stiff competition.

It is available from the App Store. Also available is the Little Lámh App for those starting to use Lámh https://itunes.apple.com/ie/app/lamh-time/id1045760656?mt=8
