What Makes Our Further Education More Than Just Training?

At first glance, what we do at the Open Training College (OTC) might seem simple: we provide training, education solutions, and qualifications. Staff attend our workshops and study online content, submit their assignments, and earn a well-deserved QQI accreditation. Job done, right?

But it's so much more than that.

But Isn’t It Just About Getting a Certificate?

No. And it shouldn’t be. At OTC, we believe in people and their potential—not just to pass, but to thrive.

Our mission is to create a supportive, engaging learning environment where students grow both professionally and personally. But most students don’t believe that—at first.

They arrive as busy professionals, juggling work and personal commitments. Often unsure of what to expect, they sit with mixed emotions: intrigued, excited, nervous, reluctant—and sometimes ready to walk away.

So How Does It Actually Work?

We start with the individual—the person behind the job title. We recognise their existing knowledge, life experience, and concerns about returning to education. We bring those fears into the light, and suddenly, they’re manageable. Normal. Okay.

We walk with them, every step of the way.

We break down the process, simplify the jargon, clarify expectations, and guide them until they feel confident and in control of their own learning.
